Bold Life, Bold Jewelry | Kimberley Gordon

Kimberley Gordon is the metalsmith and jewelry artisan behind SmashFire Designs. She’s been making jewelry since 2003 when she got hooked after deciding to design the exact hair pins she wanted to wear to a wedding. After that, Kimberley delved deeper into jewelry making which, naturally,  led her to working with metals as well. Her message to makers? Keep learning and give it your all.

SmashFire Design | Kimberley Gordon | Sirensfinds…Through reading countless books, and watching tons of videos, I taught myself the art of metalsmithing and have been wielding my fiery torch for about 9 years now… and still learning every day!!!

I am truly in love with taking a piece of sheet metal or wire and transforming it into a piece of jewelry that originated in my mind’s eye. Each piece is one of a kind, truly unique, often times a bit on the whimsical side, and a bit quirky.  I actually like to say that “I decorate people with wearable art.”  I want women to have fun with their jewelry and not have to settle for the same old boring stuff day in and day out so I create a lot of bold, playful, statement pieces that make my customers look and feel happy when they wear them.

I work mainly with silver, copper and brass and as of late have been doing quite a bit of colorful powder-coating on my pieces.  I also enjoy working with semi-precious stones… and always gravitate towards the ones with the most interesting colors, textures, and shapes. Oh, and the bigger the better too!SmashFire Design | Kimberley Gordon | Sirensfinds

Being a full time metalsmith and jewelry designer is a dream come true. I quit my day job in October of 2015, so for the last 6 months I have been slowly adjusting to life as a full time entrepreneur. There have been many ups and downs, and more doubt than I care to admit… but pushing through all those doubts and fear head first is the only way to grow and succeed. You have to believe in yourself, follow your dreams, and commit to step outside of your comfort zone. “Your comfort zone is the least safe place to be.” I love that quote; it’s what drives me!!!

So… dare to be great, find something you love and infuse every bit of your heart and soul into it… and  don’t forget to wear fun, crazy jewelry! Life’s too short to wear boring jewelry!!!
